Blog status

December 21, 2012.

My blog has been back up for several days now but without most of the old posts. I'm still working that. I think I'm getting close to having a conversion program to convert from the old database to the new while preserving all the comments and internal links. Incoming links from other blogs and websites almost for certain will not be preserved. Sorry about that.

December 4, 2012.

Yes. My blog (and all my websites) have been down since early Sunday (12/2/2012) morning.

No. Black helicopters did not carry me away. You could have contacted me via email or phone and I made a few Tweets about it once I knew the basics of what was going on.

The problem was (I think, this i still a sore point with me because I have no direct way of knowing) that my blog was consuming too much memory. I will have to dump my old blogging software and convert the content over to Wordpress (probably) before it is reactivated. I hope to have this done by Friday 12/7/2012.

Also of particular interest is how Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), my previous employer, handles people exercising their First Amendment rights in regards to the Second Amendment.

Recent news

February 4, 2004, I started a blog (web log) yesterday.  Future "recent news" will be there.  I call it The View from North Central Idaho.

January 15, 2004.  I spent about a week debating against a national ID card via email.  I think I won.  Considering it was on a government sponsored email list this may have more impact than your normal internet debate.

December 28, 2003.  I took my cousin Julia and Uncle Darrell on a Boomershoot Adventure.

December 1 2003.  I have made lots of changes for the next Boomer Shoot.  It should bigger and better than ever.

July 4th, 5th, and 6th 2003.  Barb and I celebrated our 30th High School reunion.  See our photo album.  If anyone has pictures from this event and would like to share them please email them to maniacs@joehuffman.org

May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th 2003.  I organized and ran the Palouse Practical Shooters Boomer Shoot.  It made it into two of the local papers and on the local television station.  See this link for photos and video.

January 19th, 2003.  My daughter Kim had been depressed for a week over her boyfriend breaking up with her.  So I spent a little extra time with her the following weekend.  I took her and her cousin Lacey out to the local gravel pit to help with some experiments I was doing.  Kim had a smile on her face when we left.  Check out the details by clicking here.

January 16th, 2003.  My brother's teenage daughter wrecked his car.  He wrote a story about it -- everything is different now.

December 8th, 2002.  I was rear-ended while waiting for oncoming traffic so I could take a left turn on State Highway 8 east of Moscow.  This was near the end of what was a near perfect day.  I had won the IPSC match and had some very successful tests of project Fireball.

I run the Palouse Practical Shooters Boomershoot every year.  People come from all over the U.S. to this unique event.  From New Jersey to Seattle, and California to Canada.  The Missoulian had a two page article on it.  It even made it into Newsweek in 2002.  Outside Magazine did an article in October of 2004.  It got a short mention in the Chicago Reader too.

I was a speaker at the Gun Rights Policy Conference in 1999 and 2000.

Other activities of mine that have made the news include my efforts to help the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual) community with firearms training for self-defense.  Before there was the Pink Pistols there was Cease Fear.  I have worked with both groups and am a charter member of the Palouse Pink Pistols.  Here are a few articles that have been written about our efforts:

bullet

Gays take up self defense; Organization teaches safety, protection with handguns (Lewiston Morning Tribune)

bullet

Pink Pistols chapter begun in Moscow to protect gays (AP version of the above story)

bullet

Pistol-packing proponents of gun-owner tolerance (Seattle Times editorial)

The first Sunday of the month I shoot with the Lewiston Pistol Club Action Pistol group.

And for the many people that are interested in Project Fireball, that is also available on this web site.

I maintain the following websites:

bullet

When Prophecy Fails

bullet

Lewiston Pistol Club

bullet

Lewis-Clark Wildlife Club

bullet

Modern Ballistics

bullet

Lewiston Pistol Club Boomershoot

bullet

Boomer Shoot Adventures

bullet

Idaho Sport Shooters Alliance

I do technical support for the following sites:

bullet

Scott Family Place (some of my wife's genealogy work).

bullet

James Huffman-Scott (My son -- who won the National Merit Scholarship)

bullet

Kim Huffman-Scott (My oldest daughter)

bullet

Xenia Huffman-Scott (My youngest daughter)

bullet

FOS Ammunition (friends with a small business)

Also of particular interest is an assignment my son did for college at the University of Idaho in the summer of '02.

Kim wrote a satire essay for her English class in March of 2009 and got an A. I'm a little afraid that posting it will give someone in government the wrong idea and try to implement it.

Xenia wrote a timeline of American for her Advance Placement history class in 2006.
